This is now your place to find out what's happening at Arp Junior High. I'll keep it updated to the best of my ability.
Our book fair was a great success. I was able to buy lots of news books for the library and we also gave out $125 worth of gift certificates for some of our lucky kids to spend at the book fair.
Mr. Thomas was the lucky teacher who won the "Human Sundae" Contest. This will be taking place on Thursday the 25th at 9:00 in the cafeteria. He will be covered with ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cherries.
The winner of the M&M contest was Wayne Waldron. 2nd place was Ian Hukill and 3rd place was a tie between Ethan Day and Shelton Smith.
On Saturday, February 20th, several of the Jr. High band students competed at the Solo and Ensemble competition held at NacogdochesHigh School. I am proud to say that 100% or our students earned medals with a first division!! If you see these students, please congratulate them as well as their teacher, Mr. James.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place from February 10-16, 2010. Last year was the first year for the Junior High to have a book fair and it was very successful. With your help, we can exceed last year’s sales. There are quite a few activities that are taking place and I would like to tell you about them.
February 10th – On this day, the kids will all come to the library during their English classes to see what books they would like to purchase.
February 11th – Parent’s Breakfast – 7:30 to 8:30. Come to school with your child and let them show you what they would like to buy. There will be donuts, juice and coffee for this event. Your child will also receive an entry into our prize drawing for bringing their parents.
This year, we have an opportunity to bring more books to our students and classrooms. We call it One for Books. We are asking our students and parents to donate their loose change to this program. All the money that is donated will be used to buy books for our library and I will also use it buy books to give away as prize drawings. Scholastic Book Fairs will match the One for Books dollars you raise with a donation of up to a million books to three non-profit organizations devoted to helping families in need. To make the donations more exciting to the kids, we are having a couple of contests:
Guess the Number of M&M’s - There is a jar in the library full of M&M’s. Students can pay $.25 to guess how many M&M’s there are in the jar. The person closest to the correct number without going over wins all of the M&M’s. Also, the top 3 winners will receive gift certificates of $15, $10 and $5 to use at the Book Fair.
Human Sundae - The other contest consists of turning one of our teachers into a human sundae. Students can put their loose change into Mr. Thomas’, Mr. Coughlin’s or Coach Stewart’s jar. The teacher that receives the most money will be covered in whipped cream, chocolate syrup and a cherry on top.
