udents in writing class have experienced writing both narrative and expository compositions. We are currently working on elaboration which is adding voice to their composition. We are teaching and encouraging them to use similes and metaphors as well as idioms in their writing. You can help by asking them to develop similes and metaphors to describe things in their home. Also, teaching your child idioms (lend me a hand, let the cat out of the bag, don't count your eggs before they hatch, putting the cart before the horses, etc.) will help in their writing and in their understanding. Please see the attached for steps on how to take the revising and editing part of the TAKS writing.
