Spelling

The students will be tested over patterns for the short e sound and the long e sound.

Short e (egg)

The short e sound in initial or medial position is spelled with an e (echo).

Long E (feet)

The long e sound in initial or medial position of a one-syllable base word is spelled with an ee (feet).

The long e sound in medial position of a final syllable in a multisyllabic word is spelled with e-consonant-e (athlete).

The long e sound at the end of a syllable in a base word with two or more syllables is spelled e (even).

Final E

The long e sound in final position of a one-syllable base word is spelled ee (three).

The long e sound in final position of a multisyllabic word is spelled y (candy

Writing

Writing will consist of spelling, grammar, and learning the writing process through written compositions. This week in writing we will continue with the Pre-writing stage of the writing process- brainstorming, planning, and organizing. Hopefully, we will get to start the drafting stage. We will add adjectives to our parts of speech list.
Parts of Speech
Nouns- name a person, place, thing, or idea - color-coded yellow
subject nouns - tell who or what the sentence is about
completer, complement nouns (direct object) - tells more about the subject. It answers who or what after the verb.
proper nouns - name a specific person, place or thing and are capitalized
common nouns - do not name a specific person, place, or thing
singular nouns - are one person or one thing or one place or one idea
plural nouns - are more than one person, place or thing
verbs - show action - color-coded orange
articles (noun markers) warn a noun is coming - a, an, the - color-coded red
adjectives - describes or modifies a noun - tells which one? what kind? or how many? - color-coded blue
