Composition

  • Using Transitions
    • Transitions make writing flow more smoothly between ideas, such as between sentences and paragraphs.
    • Some transitions have specific meaning. When presenting an idea that is opposite to one before it, the transition, "on the other hand," would be appropriate to use.
    • For example, "Doctors caution people about using too much salt. Research, on the other hand, indicates that it is not as dangerous as doctors warn."

Springtime in English 3

For my junior English students, spring means that you're about to make some serious considerations in the next several months. You need to start looking around at colleges, gathering information about the ones that interest you, and narrowing your choices to those that most appeal to you. Also, now is the time to take your first SAT and/or ACT tests; the one you take depends upon what the college of your choice requires.
To help you prepare for these rather difficult tests, we are returning to our Hot Words. The list is attached here, and you can find acceptable definitions at the Brittanica link that I am placing here as well.

Below is the link to Arp's EBSCO Databases and Britannica Online to help you with the definitions for the terms.

The Roman Empire Continued

Our quiz is rescheduled for Thursday, October 8th.
The timeline project is due next Tuesday, which happens to be the anniversary of the day that the Knights Templar were disbanded in France in 1307 by King Philip IV (for those who are interested in that bit of history).

For some fun check out the webquest below.
