Mythology Projects

Parents!
Your child has been working diligently on a Mythology Project in the computer lab this week. I assigned groups on Monday, and the students have been researching about the different Greek Gods and Goddesses. Today they will present their powerpoints to the class, and the ones I have seen so far have been fantastic! I know that my afternoon classes will have wonderful projects as well!
When I was in school, I NEVER took papers or grades home to my parents, and they were always left wondering about my school work until the end of each six-weeks. I hope that your children are not like this, but in case they are, I have decided to post a few of the powerpoints on my blog for you to view and comment about. If your child's powerpoint is not posted and you would like to see it, email me or leave a comment and I will put it up. All the powerpoints were great, but I don't think I'll be able to post all of them.
Enjoy!

COMPLEX SENTENCES, what?

Parents and Students! We are now studying what is probably our most difficult material for the entire year. Simple Sentences, Compound Sentences, and Complex Sentences are are all quite different, and knowing how to locate and write them is and will be very important to your grade for the rest of the school year. I am attaching the Power Point as well as assignment for today. The assignment is NOT due tomorrow. We will have time to work on it later in the week. If you are not understanding these sentence structure lessons, do not fret, for we will be working on this off and on for the rest of the year!!!

Quiz on Tuesday!

Tuesday, we will be taking a quiz over the Language Arts Strategy. Please study your notes. Just as a heads up, you will be asked what CUPS, CWS, and DMS mean. Quiz grades count twice in the gradebook, so study and be prepared! I will give 2 free points to anyone who reads and comments on this blog.

Language Arts Strategy

We are going to be learning a new technique in class tomorrow that I have cleverly named the "Language Arts Strategy!" (I wonder what it could be???) This technique is a test-taking strategy for your writing objective tests that you will be taking throughout the school year. This is also going to be very helpful when you take the TAKS test! Knowing exactly how studious 7th graders are, I am posting a link to the eight steps of the strategy, just in case you lose your notes. Once this strategy is taught, it will become non-negotiable, and must be used on ALL writing objective tests. The strategy itself will account for a portion of each writing objective test administered.Do not fret, my friends! It is very simple, and once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature!

"Zebra" Test

Hello 7th Grade!
Next week (Tuesday), you will be taking your first test over the story "Zebra" that we have been reading in class. I want to remind all of you to study your VOCAB WORDS as well as your chart/graph of similarities and differences between Zebra and Mr. Wilson that we made in class. Please remember that test grades account for 40% of your six-weeks grade, so this test is very important. I am offering 2 extra-credit points for anyone who comments on this blog. Just sign in and let me know that you read it, and that's it! 2 FREE Points!

English

English classes!
Tomorrow, you will be writing your own version of Gary Soto's "Seventh Grade". I will be using this piece of writing to assess your writing skills for the beginning of the school year. Next Monday and Tuesday, we will be taking tests to assess your objective skills both in Reading and Writing. I know that tests are a pain, but they are necessary for me to see where you are academically as a class and individually. These tests will determine what we will do for the remainder of the year. Also, THEY WILL BE COUNTED FOR A GRADE! Please do your best on these Assessments so that I can have an accurate view of skills learned and needed.
Thanks so very much!
Mrs. Broyles

Reading Logs

Hello all! Thank you so very much for your EXCELLENT behavior in the Library today! Starting tonight, please remember to read for AT LEAST 15 minutes. Fill out the information on your Reading Log after you finish and have a parent or guardian sign it. It has been so nice getting to know each of you this week, and I look forward to a great year!
If you ever forget to read or have someone sign off, you can make it up the following night. I will be checking these logs every Monday Morning for the previous week so that you will have the weekend to make up any missed reading (due to illness, football/volleyball games, etc.) If you or your parents have any questions, please contact me!
Thanks!
