Students are taught to use their reading strategies before, during, and after reading. Attached are the strategies we use on a daily basis in class to be successful readers.

Spelling Words

The students will be tested over words that fit the short a sound pattern and long a sound patterns.

Short A Pattern

The short (a) sound in initial or medial position in spelled with a.

Long A Patterns

The long (a) sound in initial or medial position of a one-syllable base word is spelled a-consonant-e.

The long (a) sound at the end of a syllable in a base word with two or more syllables is spelled with a.

The long (a) sound in final position of a base word is spelled with ay.

The long (a) sound in the medial position of a final syllable in a multisyllabic word is spelled with a-consonant-e.

Brainstorming is the first stage in the writing process. It is used to help the student generate ideas on a particular topic. We teach 3 different ways to brainstorm, which are webbing, A to Z, and Trigger Word.
