Using Screen Shots & Recordings
Rarely, however do we want to capture the entire screen. It is almost unreadable here. Most of the time we want to only capture a Window. To do this, click on the Window you would like to capture. Reduce its size to the informaiton you are interested in capturing. Then use the 2-key command Alt + Prtscr and paste the resulting picture into a Word Document, Powerpoint, or graphic editor. I recommend a graphic editor so you can save it as a .jpg after you resize and crop it. (see below)
This Window was closed around the Epsilen Menu and captured with the 2-key command (Alt+PrtScr)

Approach 2: There are some great sofware packages and online services that will allow you to capture even more interesting Screen shots. The first package we will use is SNAGIT. The older versions of SNAGIT are free. SNAGIT will allow you to capture an active Menu (which our 2-key commands will not). Here is an example:
SNAGIT will allow you to capture any part of a screen....
You can get SNAGIT from \\maroon\teachers\software OR from Download.com ... In fact if you do a Google search from "free screen capture software" you will find LOTS of programs that will assist you in capturing a screen shot.
----------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT ABOUT SCREEN RECORDING?? What if you want to work a problem or show how a piece of software is used and you would like to record the screen (with video/audio). How would you accomplish that? Again there are several approaches.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Approach 2: Google "free screen recording software". The one I use is Camtasia. There is also a free version of that.
Free Studio also allows you to caputer the screen.
You can also use ANY of your interactive tools to record your screen (Smartboard, Mimio, Document Camera, Wireless Tablets). If you have one of these devices, look through the software to see how to record the screen with audio. You can use YouTube to learn your interactive tools. Have an eBEAM? Don't know how to use it? Google a tutorial for it!!! Takes you straight to YouTube and an instructional video on how to use your tool.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Approach 3: Use your laptop Web Cam to record a message for your students. At least once a semester, you need to give them a "talking head" video. Please limit these as they are usually VERY boring...but on occasion students what to know who they are interacting with online.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Approach 4: Scheduling a SKYPE synchronous meeting with students is more difficult to fit into everyone's schedules. But you can use this type of tool to demonstrate 3-D experiments/objects or models and so there are times when it may be of value. Online synchronous communications such as chats or Webinars are much more difficult to schedule and should be used sparingly with hybrid courses.

(2) Lesson:
OR you can place pictures, graphs, etc. in your Edmodo Library and point to them for your Quizzes.

(2) Click on Launch Dropbox Website
(3) Create a folder you want to Share
(4) OR Select Share an existing folder (if you do this....make sure you make a copy of your files)
Click Share and that person will receive an email which they just have to "accept" the share if they are already a Dropbox customer. That FOLDER will now appear in their DropBox as if it was something they created. Email me if you have questions.
