In this unit we will be studying plant structure and reroduction. Now that we all have netbooks we will be getting our notes from this site. Also the powerpoints. Please download these to your computer. Hopefully you have already created a Biology folder to keep your science materials.
This site will become very useful to you throughout the year. You will be able to find the powerpoints and other materials from the Biology Units attached. The first unit is about science safety and methodology. This unit only last for the first week of school. Within this unit you will be asked to recognize lab equipment, safety symbols and procedures, be able to read scientific measurements, and explain the scientific method. We will take our first major test on Friday if we have finished the unit.
unit has 3 main topics. 1. Cell structure and function 2. Cell processes to maintain Homeostasis 3. Cell processes for energy production (photosynthesis and cellular respiration. This unit contains alot of information, it will include several labs to enhance the learning process. Below are several attachments that will be helpful while we are in this unit.
Unit 3 starts with a review of chemistry. I hope that you already know the basics, for example parts of an atom, types of chemical bonds, balancing equations, etc..... But if you don't or if you need a good review i have attached below, some notes that you can look at or print that i hope will help you fill in gaps that you may have. Also come to tutorials if extra help is needed.
Our primary focus on this unit will be on the 4 basic biomolecules found in living things. (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids) These molecules are organic (contain carbon) and provide the body with the energy, the building blocks of cells and even the genetic information to who you are. Fasten your seat belts because we are going to move quickly through this unit. Fridays lab will consist of building models of molecules, to give you some idea of the complex make-up of these biomolecules and the energy bonds they contain.
Unit 2 in C-SCOPE in Ecology. This unit is very important in gaining knowledge about our enviroment and the interaction that take place within that enviroment. This unit will include a project that will be done over a certain Biome. You will be working with a partner gathering information and poster making. Attached are the note packet and skills packet for this unit.
